We are thrilled to announce that our Blog for Family Dinner co-founder, Billy Mawhiney, has been nominated as one of five finalists to speak at the TEDxManhattan Challenge for his work with Fresh Mitchell in South Dakota. TED is a nonprofit organization that hosts conferences, talks, and performances devoted to their mission of “ideas worth spreading” worldwide. The Manhattan event, which will take place on January 21, 2012, is an independently organized event focused on changing the way we eat.
Billy has been nominated for all the great work his Fresh Mitchell program has done. In only a few short months since Fresh Mitchell’s inception, they have started an Edible Classroom program (i.e., school garden class), Kitchen Kids (i.e., cooking classes for children), a farmer’s market program that accepts food stamps, and a CSA (community supported agriculture) program. Billy’s ability to take action on a vision and make it a reality are very impressive. You can read more about Fresh Mitchell’s work and nomination here.
We hope you will consider adding your vote to ours for Billy to be a TEDxManhattan Challenge speaker. To vote for Billy and Fresh Mitchell simply email TEDxManhattanChallenge@gmail.com by December 5, 2011 and let them know you’re voting for Billy Mawhiney.
